Ramukariat a doyen of Malayalam film industry, first conceived the idea of forming a socic-cultural and welfare organzation exclusively for Madras based Malayalam Film Industry in 1966... at a time when Madras wasemerging as a major centre of film -making activites mostly for all indianlanguges. He found active support and guidance from other veterans like T.E.Vasudevan,R.S.Prabhu,M.O.Joseph etc. whose join efforts brought into the Malayala Chalachitra Parishad. The first meeting of the Parishad was held at the initiative of Ramukariat at the office of Kanmani Films, and the first Office -bearers of Parishad were.. T.E.Vasudevan - President, P.Bhaskaran and P.K.Kaimal-Vice-Presidents,K.Padmanabhan Nair- Secretary,M.O.Joseph-Joint Secretary and R.S.Prabhu-Treasurer.
Registered under the Society's Act in 1968,it has been our constant endeavour to serve as a common forum for all the the sectors of Malayalam film industry and to be of serviceto the nearby among those engaged in the various trades of this industry. Parishad's activities did not confine to the borders of this city only, but also stretched out to our home state as well. Right from the beginning we have to influenced the Kerala State Government to come forward with positive measures to create a conducive climate for the healthy growth of Malayalam Films in the State, Time and again, our representatives met the concerned Ministers and officials of the State and had discussions in the regard .In 1972, the Parishad organized a Star-Nite in connection with a Film Award Function and this turned out to be a tremendous success. Soon the State Government realized about the prospects of revenue potential of conducting such Star-Nites and staging cultural programmes. A major portion of the revenue so rasied was set aside as a Benevolent Fund to help artiste and technicians in distress... and over the years a great number of our industry people are being benefited by the State Government's Pension scheme.the Parishad is the only authorised organazsantion to vouch for the introduction of Malayalam Film Industry worker's pension.
We have never failed to extend our service and help to our members and their families intheir adverse times of dire need and distress.In the unforeseen events of death and other tragedies for some lesser fortunate industry members, Parishad did its best to be of solace and support to the bereaved families. We have also used our good offices to amicably settle many a dispute among various sectors in Malayalam Film Industry.
With the continued active support and co-operation of our members, we are quite genuine to strive for solid achievements in our services to our members in particular andthe Malayalam Film Industry in general From the beginning, very important dignitaries including chief Ministers , and a some of other visitaries have graced out various events. For the last 15 years, Parishad in bringing our the “Parishad Jouran” without any breakThe Parishad always enjoyed the covered protanage of the Government of KeralaAll most all the Chief Ministers of Kerala and severed State Ministers and Union Ministers and other dignitaries had made it a point to vist the Parishad Office whenever they used to come to Chennai apart from blessing our anniversary events regularly.
“The Parishad Journal”, the official mouthpiece of the Parishad is a prestigious off shootof us and we are bringing it out regularly from 1999.
